Idiot comment yesterday

I went to the dentist yesterday and the hygenist was asking me about the babies, if I knew what they were, etc.  I told her they were a boy and a girl.  So she says, "Are they fraternal or identical?"
I paused and looked at her kind of dumbfounded and said "They are fraternal...it's not possible for b/g to be identical."
She says in response "Oh, I don't know.  I've seen some brothers and sisters that look a lot a like that you would think they were identical."
At that point I just shut my mouth.  All I kept thinking was wow....just wow.

That's funny!  My mom actually made a similiar comment to me after we found out we were having b/g twins, and I went, um mom...boys and girls have different parts...so how can they truly be identical.  And she was like, oh yeah, I never thought of that!

Aw, I'm sure you're not an idiot.  I can understand somebody saying the are they identical or fraternal part.  Most people don't necessarily understand that.  It's the fact that after I told her it wasn't possible for b/g twins to be identical she was arguing with me about being wrong.  Um, I don't see how one having a pen!s and the other having a vagiina can make the ID but whatever.  LOL

My b/g twins are very similar looking....same features, same hair etc.  I constantly get stopped and asked if they're frat or identical.  I have had people fight with me and say they look too much alike to be frat.  MH has been known to say to strangers - well, one has a pen!s, one a vagina....you tell me if they're identical.

I love it when they argue with you! 

I would have made the identical comment (and probably have!) before I was pregnant with twins.  I just didn't really think about it.

I actually got into an argument late last year with a woman about this.  She insisted that her male/female cousins were identical twins because "the Air Force tested their DNA"???  I explained their DNA could not be identical because of the X/Y chromosomes, but it was like talking to a brick wall.
