Our little guy is 14 months and we just got his 12 months shots today. We were really scared for a while about the whole autism thing, so we put them off. We spoke with our doctor and got a lot of reassurance so decided to go ahead with them. Also, we are leaving for Mexico on the 18th and thought it would be best to have his immunizations up to date before then. We thought doing it today with leave us time for him to feel better before the trip. When we got there, the nurse said that the side effects from the vaccinations don't usually happen until 10-14 days after the vaccinations. This is right when we are gone! The trip is already booked and we can't get a refund. I'm wondering if the reaction was bad for your DC and if you think he will be OK on vacation? I will take lots of Baby Motrin for him, but is there anything else you can recommend? Please tell me the reactions weren't that bad!
Re: 12 month vaccinations?
Did you get the chicken pox vaccine? I've read on here that one in particular seems to cause bumps, a fever and irritability up to two weeks after the shot.
Even if he hadn't gotten the shots, I'd take motrin, tylenol and a thermometer with you on any trip.
Caleb just got his 12 month shots last Friday. I don't think he has had any problems. He was sick Monday and Tuesday, but he gave it to me so I don't think it is related to vaccines.
