DD's new favorite swear word...

"God_damnit!"  I know it could be much worse, but I'm sure her Christian day care provider will be more than offended. She always says it at an appropriate time too - and I have to say, it's hard not to laugh. DH has had it with her saying it and immediately puts her in time out (no warnings). I agree that we need to do this and be consistent. Well yesterday she would say it, put herself in time out, and come out and say "I'm sorry Mommy. I'm sorry I say "god_damnit!" Little stinker..she didn't even know WHY she got another immediate time out for that one.

Anyone else's dcs love to swear yet?

Re: DD's new favorite swear word...

  • That's exactly N's favorite.  And it's totally my fault...I say it all the time.  I try to not make a big deal of it or I just tell him matter of factly that it's not nice.  I figure the more attention he gets from it the more he'll do it.  Who knows, though...it is kinda funny!

  • Mine has said different swears from time to time, usually copying someone.  I found if I have a reaction to it she says it more, looking for a reaction.  If I ingore her it's usually just that one time and it's out of her system....
  • Eric's favorite expression when he is mad is "Son of a nutcracker!!!" ?He got that from Will Farrell in the movie "Elf." ?Cracks me up everytime he says it :)

  • She'll be 2.5 in March.

We did the ignoring route, and she says it MORE! And then she'll bang her hands on the floor or table and say it louder. Last week she dropped her fork at dinner and said "Ah, god_damnit! I drop my fork." I went to get it for her and had to stay bent over until I could compose myself! DH was less than thrilled though. Whoops!

  • DS has picked up "sh!t" from me :( Luckily, it is easy to spin...whenever he says it I say "what, you want to SIT here?" and then he gets confused.

I really need to start watching my mouth more.

  • Well DD has sh*t a few times and even one time after DH said "oh crap!"  She said "oh sh*t!".  She is only 2.5 so we just ignore it.  She is too young to understand that she shouldn't say certain words.  I feel like if I call attention to it, she will just say it more.  Ignoring it seems to work cause she hasn't said it in a couple months now.  I know who she has learned the swear words from (me), and I have gotten a lot better about it.  It is hard not to laugh though hearing those words coming out of their sweet little mouths!
