TTC & Baths

On another thread I just read about someone's doctor telling them to avoid baths. I have heard you shouldn't take extremely hot baths when first pregnant but I haven't heard anything about taking them while TTC. I have heard about this effecting a mans fertility but not womans. Has anyone's doctor told them to avoid baths when TTC or just when pregnant? I love taking my bath every night but was not told this by my doctor! Thanks!

As long as you don't raise your body temperature too much, there's no reason you can't take a bath - while TTC or PG.

I've heard not to take super hot showers/baths when TTC - I don't know the reasoning behind it, but I've heard it.

I heard to keep your body temp under 99. I definately take long hot baths that push that. I have managed to get ku twice doing it and my losses are not related to that. In fact, the baths might actually help it.

hmmm, I didn't know that either. ?I love baths. ?I would think that it would be like the 'no hot tub' rule when you are pg. ?I think if it was a big concern we would have already known about it.

Supposedly there is some connection with getting UTI's & yeast infections. I grew up with nothing but a tub and the only UTI's I have ever had have been related to not peeing after sex and I have never had a yeast infection. Blows that theory.

I agree, I also grew up taking almost all baths. I've never had a UTI and only got a yeast infection once when on antibiotics.

Hi! I was the one that mentioned it and I will have to ask her the reasoning. She definitely said DH should not take hot baths or hot tubs, which we all knew. But for some reason she strongly suggested not to take hot baths. She said hot showers don't matter because you're not soaking. I'm not an expert, just sharing what I was told!

No problem- I was just very curious! I love my baths and had never heard that they were any kind of issue for women when TTC. Please let me know what your doctor's reasoning is, thanks!

go take a bath and relax. it's fine. hot baths while pg are said to be ok by most too, as long as you don't get your body temp too high or sweat.

Baths for women at any time are not supposed to be optimal for down there- it increases the chance of yeast infection. But, I think that is more about products with fragrance in the water (AKA things that mess up the "natural flora") and not the temperature. Some health professionals recommend not even washing with anything more than plan water down there-- not even soap. But, I've never heard about it being a TTC issue, just a general women's health ideal.
