luluroo

I understand why you're upset about them cutting 10% of your family salary. We are in the same position here.  Only it is 10% each person so with my husband and me, it will be 20%.  That is our mortgage payment for the year!  So I understand the frustration.  Our taxes are increasing, our caretaker prices are increasing and they are decreasing our salaries.  This is the 4th year they have cut my dh's salary (each year it has been over 7k).  Now they are with this new proposal of 10% each person and it is pushing some ppl out of their homes in our city (some police are married to teacher, etc.  and we are all getting the same cuts).  We will be ok but it is very frustrating.  I think ppl posted very harshly on you.  I know you are thankful for your job, we are too.  However, it is very difficult to see your salary going down and seeing some of your friends out of their homes.  I think that the government really needs to assess a better way of staying above the water.  Too often it comes at the expense of the employees.  When their is so much waste in the government.

Re: luluroo

  • Just so you know...

    10% for you..and 10% for your DH..is 10% of your family income..not 20%.

  • How do you figure that when they are taking 10% out of my check and another 10% out of his?  Then next year they are doing it again (as soon as July 1st hits and the fiscal year changes)
  • Loading the player...
  • I get what you're saying about 10% of our total income but I was trying to explain that we are each getting hit out of our checks this year (from now until June) and again in July.  My dh is also getting hit with it now with furloughs that they've had for 4 years.

I hope you don't teach math.

If you have...10..and you take 10%...that gives you 9.

If he had 20..and you take 10%..that gives you 18.

You had 30...now you have 27.  Which is less...3...or 10%.

Its a percentage..you take away 10%..you are removing 10% of the whole..which is equal to removing 10% of two parts.

  • Evil Widgets,

Gee thanks for the break down.  Now I have it, thanks.  But if you see the breakdown, we are getting 10 this year and another 10 next year so our salary keeps going down each year by 10%.  So if you take our salary from a few years ago, we will be down over 20 of our previous income.  Get what I'm saying?

  • Thank you.  I wasn't talking about the millions of people that have lost their jobs.  Trust me, my heart breaks for them.  And I will gladly take the 5% paycut to keep jobs for other people.  I was talking about the overwhelming over abuse of the system.

But yes, I am incredibly grateful I have a job.

  • Believe me Luluroo, I understand.  What bothers me as we are taking these cuts, is that the mayor of our city_got a flippin raise!!! Yep, so did the super of schools!
  • Uh....evil widgits she wasn't even talking to you...but thanks for the math lesson!

I know you weren't paging me either oparcm but I get what you are saying.  The bottom line is it's very frustrating for fiscally conservative people that are working to make ends meet get pay cuts....and it's hard not to blame the out of control spending by the gov (regardless of WHAT they are spending it on...it's spending beyond their means.  Who wouldn't be frustrated?!

  • Thanks lucyfox, you understand.  And like Luluroo I do think that I am fortunate to have a job (I've been there 17 years and my dh has been at his 21 years) so we are grateful.  But like I said, this would've paid our mortgage and put some money for other expenses.  It is just frustrating and we are hopeful the economy will turn around.
