Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

20 week fetus weight

My baby was 5.29 ounces at the time of delivery, we had an US done 5 days before he was stillborn and the technician said he was 12 ounces.

I know that it's all a guessing game, but part of me is wondering if he was just not growing.

The charts for "average" weight state that at 20 weeks gestation a fetus weighs approx 10+ ounces, but can vary.

I don't know...I'm probably just grasping at straws in an effort to cope.

  • The same thing happened to me.  They said he was 12 ounces but he was actually delivered at 8.  I think they use some info to predict but they really have no way of knowing.  I'm sorry you are going through this too.  Sending big HUGS your way.

I just read your most recent post on you blog, and I have to say that I know how you feel about not wanting any baby, but the one you lost. I know I'll be so grateful to hold any baby we have, but it still stings.

  • I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I haven't been through something similar, but did want to agree w/ the PP about the weight being somewhat of a guess. Even with full term babies, the weight isn't completely accurate.
