I was just reading through the original mother goose rhymes and found this one.

 

Snail, Snail,
Come out of your hole,
Or else I'll beat you black as a coal.

SIL sent us a book of nursery ryhmes for DS after he was born.  I was appalled!  One was about throwing someone down the stairs.  Most just didn't make sense.  I hated that book!

Most are.  Red Riding Hood for instance.  Snow White. 

I own Grimm's Grimmest, it's Grimm's Fairy Tales, a collection of the originals.  Most have been tamed down.  A LOT.
