2nd Trimester

Just had an interesting conversation with men!

I'm in the coffee room making some coffee for the team (we take turns for our little "coffee happy hour).  Anyway, three men walked in from another team and asked me how I was doing and if I knew whether we are having a girl/boy.  That led to a discussion on OWT.  They were telling me all sorts of stuff that they were told when their wives were pregnant and what really ended up happening.  They were even giving me advice for delivery! One guy says "just push, my wife was so concerned about what could come out if she pushes too hard but she finally just gave in and pushed with everything she had"

So werid to be talking about the possibility of pooping while pushing with men. Indifferent

Re: Just had an interesting conversation with men!

  • Thats hilarious!  Neither one of the men in this office would be caught dead talking about that!  They don't even like coming into my office (I share the office with two other pregnant women).  I think this many pregnant women in one office scares them!

  • I would be so embarrased!

I thought about feeling embarrassed but I just went with it.  I think dads don't get to talk about all of that stuff often that when they can, they just sort of blurt things out.  It was just weird to dodge all of the uncomfortable questions I'm getting from women to then have to have the same convo with men.

  • I had a co-irker telling me how important it was to breast feed and which pump is the best and blah blah blah. He was so worked up about it too. It was so creepy. Men should not know that much about breast feeding.

  • One of DH's friends is a relatively new father, and the last time we saw him, he spent the first hour or so of our visit recommending various baby products to me. It was pretty hilarious, especially since he's very much a guy's guy:  a mechanic, likes to drink beer and watch football, etc. And yet here he was telling us not to waste our money on the expensive sippy cups, and to make sure to get a high-chair with a washable cover!
  • I think that's very cool! Our guy friends with children get so excited to talk baby stuff - it's really cute. I have honestly learned so much from them. One just about picked out our car seat for us! Another has been trying to prep us for all the ups and downs of having a newborn (he has a 3 mo) and is always asking me q's about my ultrasounds, how I'm feeling, etc.

I work with several male doctors (some family, ped, or OB/GYN even) and I'm really surprised that they haven't asked me anything yet or offered any advice. But I suppose that they either know better than to approach a pg woman unsolicited or prefer to not talk shop out of the office.
