2nd Trimester

Belly feeling tighter and heavier?

So, I still pretty much have that jelly belly look that seems like I had a few too many beers rather than a baby, but I have noticed in the last few days that it seems like my whole belly is heavier and tighter and after I eat, welcome to bloat town! It suddenly feels like there might be something IN there....

Is is normal to feel this way at this point and is anyone still getting bloated after meals? And WHERE is my nice, hard, round belly??

Re: Belly feeling tighter and heavier?

  • My belly changes consistency pretty regularly.  Sometimes it's all mushy and fat-like, and other times it's kind of hard and baby-like.  I have no idea why (it MIGHT be linked to bloating!  I didn't even think of that!), but I like to think it has to do with how the baby is laying: if the back is pressed up against my front, it's hard, but if the hands and feet are to the front, it's softer.  (Probably just wishful thinking.)

  • It's probably not bloat but a combination of a full stomach and your uterus. With DD I didn't have a "nice round belly" until around 26-27w though.?
  • Mine is getting harder and harder every day. I can feel the top of my uterus a couple inches above my belly button. I still look like I have a beer gut, but every day, it jiggles a little less than it did the day before.
  • I noticed that mine always feels much harder and bigger at night. ?Probably because it's full of food.
  • I am a "bigger" woman anyways and I look and feel sometimes like I have just had to much to drink but I have been feeling the same way...

My naturally "plumper" belly seems to be getting tighter and my belly button is getting shorter in depth too... like something is pushing it forward

  • I feel EXACTLY the same! I wouldn't say I'm "showing" yet, but it seems thatmy belly is becoming more firm and rounded lately. I'm still in my regular clothes (the mat ones are too big still in the tummy area) because I don't have a round belly yet, just a little bit more firm and poochy one :)
  • Mine feels this way throughout the course of the day.  Last night, after work, I changed into sweats and a tee, and I walked in the bathroom and almost screamed at the mirror -- I looked WAY pregnant, not just bump-y that I'm used to...it threw me off guard!  And it felt heavier while I was exercising and doing housework, too.  The heaviness tends to be coming on more permanently, but the growth and hardness of the bump grow throughout each day and then calm down overnight a bit.
  • Mine always feels big, tight, and hard.  Whether I've eaten an entire meal or haven't had anything, it's always that way.  Within the last week, I've noticed that it feels tight even while sleeping and now I have to sleep with a pillow under it.

Things I did different with this pregnancy:
    1. Waited TTC until after I had 3 normal menstrual cycles.
    2. Got a new OB - amazing man who listened!
    3. 200 mg progesterone until 12 weeks
    4. Daily lovenox injections
  • I'm starting to feel the same way. DH even commented the other night on how much harder my belly is getting
