And we're on team pink, very excited. The doc said everything looked good, but they were having trouble getting a great pic of out lil girls heart, because she would not move into the righ position. They told me I don't need to worry, that it's really just to be sure but that nothing looked wrong, we could see the 4 chambers, it was beating etc. I'm not worried yet, but wondering if anyone has had this? Is it like a regular ultrasound, except with a pediatric cardiologist?
Re: Has anyone had to have a fetal echocardiogram? Had Big U/S today
Congrats on your baby girl!!!
sorry no advice about the rest, I haven't gotten that far yet!
I have not yet, but I have it scheduled for a few weeks from now... It is an u/s of the babys heart.
And congrats on team pink
We're having one in 2.5 weeks, so I don't know exactly yet. However, my understanding is that it is a detailed u/s of the heart, which is really what a normal echo for adults is as well. I know that when I was last at the dr's, he wanted to confirm that the appointment was listed as an echo and not just as an u/s. I think that was just to make sure that it would be done by someone who specializes in fetal echos and that it would go into the detail he wanted.
edit to add: It will be performed by one of the u/s techs in the perinatalogist's office that my reg OB refers u/s out to. My understanding is that this office has cetain techs perform different types of OB u/s,so the techs "specialize" in their type of u/s.
Congrats on the baby girl! Yes, we had one. We needed to have one because our baby has a echogenic (sp?) focus... big name for calcium deposits in the heart. This is one marker for downs. We declinded 1st tri screening, so our doctor recommended a fetal echo to get more information. We were not worried as our baby didn't have any other markers (all measurements looked good). We had the fetal echo and it was AWESOME! Not only did they look at each chamber of the heart, but they listened to each section... it was amazing! So, yes, it's like a regular ultrasound. The u/s probably won't be done by the pediatric cardiologist, but one of his/her techs. Any other questions... let me know... we just had it done 3 weeks ago so it's still pretty fresh in my mind. Good luck!
