is tanning while BF ok? (google sucks for this one)

I lovvvve tanning and I miss is now being in the dead of winter and white as a ghost. I can't wait to get back into it. It tends to lift my spirits especially when I've had a shitty day. I'm wondering if it's safe after baby is born if I'm BF to go under the lights.

 TIA!

  • Not sure..but maybe post this over on 0-6/6-12 boards. They would probably have more responses.

  • We went to Hawaii when DS was 7 months old and I went tanning before the trip.

  • Ok, without reading your actual post, all I imagined was you with the baby laying in a tanning bed BFing. While I'm sure you would NEVER do that, I'm equally as sure that its been done before.

Its a sad sad world we live in.

Ohh, and I have no clue as to an answer. It was just a funny/horrible image.?

She was actually asking if it was okay to tan while BFing, not pregnant!  LOL

  • A woman on here is pregnant and tans. I don't see a difference between tanning while pregnant and tanning while BFing but then again I don't know sh!t! lol

I'd just ask the doctor if you can't find it online or even if you do find it i'd still ask just to be safe.

Ohhhh OK,thank you. -laughs- I guess I looked over that. :/ I was thinking how terrible but keeping my mouth shut!

  • When you get the answer to this, please post b/c i am now wondering as well.  I would think that tanning while BF would be better than using self tanner while BF.  And I sure hope it turns up being okay b/c I'm heading to Napa a month after delivery for my brother's wedding and i will need some color in my life ~ this pastey look is just not my thing!!!

  • What about an airbrush tan?  Not a spray, but actual airbrush?

I used to tan a lot, but DH is anti tanning beds, so I found a plastic surgeon's office who has an airbrush tanning machine.  It was awesome - she does it so it looks "real".  Yes, the first time you take a shower you "bleed" tanning, but after that it doesn't rub off or anything.  I did it for my wedding and several other occasions.  It was about $25.00 and lasted for over a week - even with swimming when I was in AZ last fall!!

  • I would think it would be fine as long as you don't burn yourself (or your boobs - OUCH!). The main concern with tanning while pregnant is that the pigments in your skin can come in blotchy because of the hormones. That isn't a problem once you're breastfeeding. You can pretty much do anything you want to while BFing, as long as it doesn't bother the baby, and as long as you don't drink very much alcohol before you nurse. Oh, and don't take drugs, ever.:)
