1st Trimester

Pasteurization?

I've been having crazy cravings for eggs - but specifically runny eggs, sunny side up... With lots of buttery toast to dip in. Mmmmmm. But I know that you're not supposed to have any raw eggs, unless they've been pasteurized. My questions is how to tell if my eggs are pasteurized (i.e. should it say on the package, or is it just an assumption if the eggs are bought in Canada)? I buy organic eggs (by a major company, not just some farm on the side of the road), but it doesn't say anything about them being pasteurized on the package. What do ya think - can I have my runny eggs and eat 'em, too?

Re: Pasteurization?

  • Pasteurized implies that the eggs have been heated so you can't get raw eggs that pasteurized. Wiki has the exact temperature they must be heated up to.

Organic is good and perhaps if you cook them a tad longer than you would normally, I would go for it. If you are really concerned, wait until 2nd Tri.

I had a Mr. Sub Assorted Lunch Meats sub this weekend. If that makes you feel any better.?

  • Bummer :-(   I was really hoping for my eggs. Oh well, scrambled it is.... Again.

PS. I know even the thought of runny eggs should be making me queasy - I don't know what's wrong with me! Sorry if I made anyone nauseous!

  • What if you did eggs over medium?  That's like...egg compromise!
