Your thoughts on the Michael Phelps bong pic?

IMHO, as long as he didn't do it during the Olympics, I think he was just being young and dumb. Yes it is illegal, and yes he is a role model for many yound kids, so he needs to wisen up. I do not think he should be banned from the 2012 games for this though. WDYT?

Re: Your thoughts on the Michael Phelps bong pic?

  • Oh wow, that's the first I've seen of this.  What a shame!  I feel for the poor guy though, you know?  I mean, he's a 23-year-old KID, essentially, and he did something EXTREMELY stupid . . . which unfortunately for him, comes at a MUCH higher price for someone like him than some average college kid.

I hope he won't be kicked off the 2012 team, but if he loses some endorsements and needs to pay some fines or whatever, hey, you make your choices.

Sucky though.  It must be hard to be a college kid these days, with all the cameras on cell phones, etc.  I'm sure we've all done our share of stupid things in our time, but ours were probably not caught on film! Sad

  • I say, "No big deal."?

My dh saw the picture and said, "Right on!" ?

I don't have one single problem with it. None whatsoever. ?

  • Geez, we have got to cut the kid some slack.  Yes, he's a professional athelete, but I highly doubt a little bong action is going enhance his performance.
  • would it make a difference if he were doing it in another country where it is legal?

i really could care less if he smokes some pot.

  • doesn't bother me.....
  • I think it is sad that it is a big deal. Marijuana should be legalized - it is ridiculous that it is illegal. He is over 21, and I could care less.

  • No big deal to me. I mean, if he was doing ecstasy or coke or something, I'd have a problem with it, but to "kids these days" smoking pot is practically like smoking cigarettes.

I am officially old now that I've used the phrase "kids these days."

  • Seriously....smoke on smoker... Totally not worth him losing his spot on the Olympic Team.  But, if he does, at least he went out on top.  He is so young, and probably has never gotten to be a "kid".  Good for him.  On perezhilton there was a quote by a guy who was supposedly there, and he went on and on about how Phelps was a "gold medal bong hitter"....DEAD.
  • I could care less if the kid smokes pot. He is an adult and I don't think pot is bad.  He has worked hard his whole life, he deserved to blow off steam.  Stupid to let someone take your picture though.  He needs (smarter) better friends.
  • Whatever!  I could care less.

Just think it's stupid that he let someone take a pic of him doing it, it's not like he is an average joe...

  • Seriously, I don't know why anyone would care what he's doing on his personal time in the off-season if it doesn't hurt others.  I'm a believer that pot should be legal, so I'm sure that colors my opinion, but I could care less that he's enjoying his youth.

  • My thoughts?  I feel sorry for him that he can't smoke pot in peace without media scrutiny honestly!  I'm all for the legalization of marijuana and don't see what the big deal is.  I guess if I were him I'd be EXTRA careful to never allow photos to be taken of me while I was partaking in an activity that is illegal.
