Can't find a heartbeat - devastated

My DH and I went for a follow-up US yesterday after having one a week ago after some bleeding.  The baby is measuring 6w 4d and the doc couldn't find a heartbeat.  She said she expected to see it by now.  None of it processed in my brain until she said "I'm sorry."  Then I lost it.  She said she's 80% sure this is a m/c but wants me to come back next Thursday for another US and to discuss options.  I'm sick.   Last week was hell waiting for the second US.  I cannot imagine how I'll get through this week.  I guess I have a 20% chance I'll stay with you here on 1st Tri.  Trying to keep positive....Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry for your loss. The m/c and pregnancy loss board is a great place if you need some extra support from women who have been through the same experience.  ((hugs))

I'm so very sorry to hear that, but I am going to stay positive, and I hope you will be able to do the same. Nothing is certain and I will pray for you and your baby.

whatever you do make sure they are 100% one way or the other. i was 9 + 1weeks and they couldnt find a heartbeat. so i agreed to have the D&C. after the surgery the pathology found my baby healthy and developed to the point of surgery 10 + 4.so keep looking. have faith. some women you cannot see the heartbeat until 12 weeks. some you can see early. some you can hear early. some you cant. dont be discourage. it could be okay!!! take care of yourself and were all praying for you and covering you in sticky dust. stick baby!

6w4d is actually pretty darn early to see a heartbeat so keep your hopes up! just because you didn't see the heartbeat doesn't automatically mean you're having a m/c.

I know this might sound silly but I remember watching an episode on Opra I believe and I can't remember the guest- but they were told they were going to have a m/c and the mom went home and layed in bed with her hand on her tummy/uterus talking for a really long time to the baby and praying for the baby to make it through, ect.  and unbelievable when they went back in there was a strong hb and she had one healthy baby.  Depends on your faith/believe but it wouldn't hurt to try- maybe give you some hope during the next few days of waiting, I think its awful that they would have you wait that long- but other post are right 6wks is a little early to hear a heartbeat.

I think it might be a bit early to throw in the towel. I don't know why the doctor is so pessimistic, everywhere I read it says that 6 weeks is too early to see/hear a h/b. If you don't bleed in the next few weeks, go in for another u/s, maybe everything is OK! I had my first u/s at 8 weeks and we were able to see it.

wow, how awful! see, that's another reason to wait and not jump the gun. sometimes the h/b can't be seen or heard and the baby is still OK.

I've stayed off the computer all day today.  DH and I went to a Super Bowl get together at the neighbor's house for a needed distraction.  I just needed to stop thinking about it for a few hours.  Now I've read what everyone has written and I feel so blessed by all of you,   I feel so much more positive now.  I really had pretty much given up hope.  I'm going to pray and be positive and look forward to the u/s on thursday.  Will let you know what happens.  Thank you!

That is so heartbreaking.  Did they have any explanation for you?  I can't imagine how you must have felt.
