did i ever tell you all the story of when we put ava in the boone co. fair baby show over the summer?  first of all, those pageant moms i have seen on tv specials about baby/childrens pageants seriously freak me out- the fake hair, makeup and spray tanning on little girls is just creepy (oh, and the fake teeth- that has to be the scariest).  but i thought a county fair baby show would be innocent enough, and it was just for fun- not the start of a "pageant career" lol.  well, i (and a few other moms) made the mistake of putting a simple sundress on her and thinking that this would cut the mustard.  when we got there, most of these tiny babies were decked out in frilly dresses and huge hair bows, despite not having any hair.  they had really prepared for this and were taking it very seriously.  dh & i were like the bad kids in the back of the class, laughing and making jokes- and wondering how those bows were stuck to their poor little heads.  anyway, some of the moms were acting like they were the ones in the pageant.  they were decked out themselves, since they had to take their children on stage to show them off, and when they got up there they would prompt their babies to do tricks as if they were show dogs.  grandma was in the audience trying to get baby's attention to make them smile and laugh, and if they didn't, they would go "awww..." and look around at the other parents and grandmas like it was such a shame.  when it was time for ava to go up, i found myself caught up in all of this- i told dh "no you take her up- old ladies love you."  haha!  ava even tilted her head to side (without our prompting, i'm proud to say) as if to say "aren't i the cutest baby you've ever seen?" and was clapping her hands.  still, simple sundress = no final round!  oh well, we still got some cute pics:

yep they have them for boys too, i didn't see that part of the show though.

That is hilarious! I am convinced county fairs are fixed. Think about it, the same people always run it, the crazy stage moms are all BFF with the judges, ok I'm not bitter and giving away secrets about my past here! ha!

Tiff- not bitter or anything either, but I did notice that the girl who won Miss Boone Co. had the same last name as the pageant director.  It was a very different last name so it caught my attention.  But anywho... I'm not sure we're cut out for the pageant thing anyway.  You and I both know that KY cheerleading is cut throat enough, lol!
