Several of my close girlfriends have delivered at the same hospital I will, with the same OB practice. ?Half of them took the birth classes & said they were pointless; half of them did not take one class & still had a great birth experience.?
I took one of those all day crash course with #1. Mostly, I enjoyed it because it was a bonding experience with DH and taught HIM how to deal with me, both in late pregnancy and during delivery. And I really did use the breathing methods.
Can you do without it and just read a book or talk to your dr and moms that you know? Sure. But I liked it.
I will probably do it, mainly b/c they are free at the women's center where I will deliver, so I figure what the heck. I am also planning to take Lamaze or some other kind of natural birth class.
They are part of the practice at the Navy hospital. They are optional, but I liked the idea of having a group of women due near me in the same group. It's called "Centering" at my hospital. It's fun.
It's actually required for first time mom's at the hospital where I will give birth. Now, I know they are not going to turn me away if I show up in labor, but it's free. So, we will do it.?
Re: Just curious
I don't plan on it.
