1st Trimester

Poll: Exercise

1)  Did you regularly exercise before BFP?

2)  Have you been exercising since BFP?

3)  If so, when will you stop?

I would love to start walking on the treadmill.  I wake up every morning with good intentions, but as the day goes on, I just can't find the energy.  Maybe today will be the day...

Re: Poll: Exercise

  • Even if you didnt work out before baby it is a good idea to get some exercise to keep both of you healthy.  Just walking on the treadmill for a half an hour a couple times a week would be good.  And if you do start drink lots of water.  Your doctor will tell you if and when you should stop.

  • We went to the gym at least 5 days before my BFP.

Now we go at least 3... I'm hoping to get back up to 5. The weather has been just as big of a factor as the exhaustion. But I really feel SO much more energitic after I work out... I'm dragging ass to get there, but it's so worth it.

  • I worked out a lot before and have dropped a little now...but I think it was just first trimester symptoms.  I definitely am getting energy back.  I run a couple times a week, do a few low weight/high rep classes and take pilates once a week.  I plan to do it all until it is uncomfortable.  My MIL has promised to take water aerobics with me when I can't run anymore.
  • For my first I was exercising regularly, running mostly. The belief that you can't raise your heartrate over 130 is extremely dated & for most healthy people/pregnancies it's a load of crap. I am not an MD, but I have a degree in Sports Medicine/Exercise Science so there is a little background knowledge there ;)

I continued to run at least 5 days a week through my pregnancy & even at 6am the day I delivered a healthy 7lb 2oz baby girl. Great delivery, easy recovery & was running again somewhere between 4-6 weeks PP.?

That said....since I already had a routine pre-preg. it worked for me. It is not recommended to start a high intensity program when you find out you are pregnant, but even those who never exercised will benefit from moderate activity throughout their pregnancy.?

  • 1)  Did you regularly exercise before BFP?  I worked out 4-5 days a week before

    2)  Have you been exercising since BFP?  I was so sick during 1st tri I worked out once the entire time.  Anytime I wasn't at work I was sleeping!  I did start exercising a month ago again and its wonderful!

    3)  If so, when will you stop?  Never (if I can control it)

  • 1) Yes, I used to be a competitive ballroom dancer, but I stopped shortly after getting PG due to the cost.

    2) I have not been exercising b/c I'm always either achy, tired or nauseaus. I keep telling myself I will force myself to get out and take a walk, but it just doesn't happen. I know I need to do it though.

  • Before BFP I walked our dog everyday. Since BFP we don't go as much mainly because I am usually too tired and I have had problems with bleeding and doctor said no exercising:(  So not only am I not getting out to walk but neither is our poor dog.
  • 1)  Did you regularly exercise before BFP?

I hadn't in about 6 months, but before I stopped I was walking, doing yoga, and riding my horse (dressage. not just sitting up there...)

    2)  Have you been exercising since BFP?

No, not in first trimester - too nervous and Dr. told me to hold off. I will start walking and doing prenatal yoga in a few weeks. (no riding)

    3)  If so, when will you stop?

I don't plan to stop unless I have complications, etc.

  • I exercised 4-5 days a week BFP and have been exercising 4 days a week since BFP. I plan to exercise throughout my pregnancy unless I can't for some reason. I walk/jog on the treadmill, go on the ellipitical and do weights for my legs and arms.

  • Yes.

Yes, I do about 30 minutes on the elliptical, spin bike, or walking on the treadmill. ?I've chosen to stop running.?

I'll stop when my doctor tells me to.?

  • 1. yes

    2. yes

    3. I won't unless the dr tells me to. If nothing else, I expect to still be walking at the very end

  • Yes - 4-5 days a week

Yes - 3-4 days a week if I am not too tired (mornings are eaiser than after work.......thats a killer.

If the Doc says "stop" I'll stop!

  • 1)  Did you regularly exercise before BFP? Yes, ran a 8k 4 days before.

    2)  Have you been exercising since BFP?  No, too sick.

    3)  If so, when will you stop? I plan to start back up soon, just walkting though, no more running.

  • Before BFP - I was exercising occasionally, but traveling lots for work so it wasn't as regular as I would have liked

After BFP - I've been going to the gym 3+ times a week for 30-45 minutes.

If my doctor says to stop I will.  I'll adjust what I do as the pregnancy goes on to make sure whatever I do is comfortable.  Like switching from the elliptical to walking on the treadmill once I get bigger.

  • I did work out before and I meant to keep working out, but between the nausea and exhaustion I havent since November :( I am feeling much better and signed up for prenatal yoga that I start this Wednesday and I have a treadmill in my basement I plan to start walking on again. Once I start, I plan on working out as long as I can. I have a pool, so come June I'll work swimming into the mix. I heard when you exercise you have a much, much easier labor and I am all for that :)
  • Worked out before.

Continuing to work out now about the same number of days per week (3) for about 50 minutes each time on the elliptical or treadmill--no running.  I definitely have toned it down a bit now though since I worked out really hard before.  Now, I wear one of those heartbeat monitor watches to make sure I stay below 140 bpm.

I'll stop when the doctor tells me I should.  I need all the help I can get with exercise since I've started out this pregnancy overweight and need to manage weight gain to the 15 to 20 lb range.

  • 1)  Yes - I ran a marathon about a month before we conceived.

    2)  Yes - still running, but more on the treadmill (mostly due to weather)

    3)  When my doctor tells me to, or if it starts feeling bad. For now, it still feels great!
