2nd Trimester

What can I use for a skin rash?

I have one on my arm, mostly from scratching it so much :|

I usually use hydrocortisone but I hear that has steroids in it & can cross the placenta. Any suggestions?

  • Neosporin is safe. Also, witch hazel and aloe vera may help.

  • Regular lotion doesn't keep it from itching?

  • I'm a PA in dermatology...we prescribe low potency steroids for pregnant women...I just used some the other day on mosquito bites, it's safe. OTC hydrocortisone is fine. Don't use Neosporin...it's an antibiotic so it won't relieve a rash at all, plus about 80% of the population is allergic to Neomycin which is the main ingredient...for any OTC antibiotic creams, Polysporin is the best (b/c it doesn't have neomycin)!!

  • I got the OK for cortaid for some random rashes in my first trimester.

did your OB give you a list of approved meds for throughout pregnancy? Things you can take/ use without calling the office?
