How heavy was AF after failed IUI?

Since we started TTC I've been pretty lucky in the AF dept - pretty regular cycle and only moderately heavy for two days, then light flow/spotting for two days. This was a very nice change from my teen years where I'd go 3-6 months between periods and when AF finally did arrive I'd be changing a tampon every two hours for the first two-three days of a 7-day AF.

Now that I'm doing injectibles (just Follistim) I'm wondering what to expect from AF. Some people have said AF after a failed IUI is horribly heavy because the lining gets so built up. Was this your experience? I'm dreading a failed cycle as it is but a really heavy flow will just add insult to injury. Sad

Re: How heavy was AF after failed IUI?

  • I ruined a pair of pj's while sleeping overnight. That was my first treatment cycle, so I am hoping for different results this time! My lining then was an 11.

  • Sorry if this is TMI, but after my failed IUI in December, I have had 2 periods and they were both EXTREMELY heavy.  I actually bled through a tampon in less that 2 hours...horrible. (and it was the *super* tampon)
  • After my first IUI, my cycle was waaayyyy heavy.  It seriously looked like a murder scene (sorry, if TMI). I had NEVER had such a heavy cycle.   I called my RE b/c it freaked me out and I was petrified something was wrong and he told me it was totally normal b/c of the follistim.

BUT..since then I've had 2 more IUI's and 2 IVF's all w/ Follistim and none were as bad as the first.  I guess b/c your body produces so many extra follicles and it's the first time it's done that so it prepares for it.

Good luck and I hope you have a mild AF.

  • Oh man...you guys are scaring me! LOL!

Better to know now then be surprised later, I guess. At least I've had experience with really heavy AFs before so I know what to expect, but that just plain sucks. Oh well. Thanks, ladies!

  • Extremely heavy.  Several super tampons plus pantyliners a day.
  • Very, very heavy - with lots of painful cramping too.
  • AF came 6 days ago and still has not left. ?It was freakishly heavy through yesterday, but I had a 16.5 lining.
