We have the crib and the bedding - just no crib mattress. I was thinking of just registering for one, but wasn't sure if the BRU ones were ok or if we should just buy ourselves somewhere else.
two of the top recommended coil mattresses in Baby Bargains are available there. The simmons supermaxipedic 160 coil and the sealy baby soft premium (204 coils).
I don't have a recommendation, but I can tell you I would not recommend the regular colgate classica, which is the same firmness on both sides. It is HARD AS A ROCK, and we are actually looking for a softer mattress now that's he's a little older.

ditto - we never looked for a softer one but did add a little of our own padding between the mattress and cover. ?DS got used to sleeping with us (which was never planned but worked) - so I think the super crazy firm mattress made it even harder to transition him to his crib. ?He sleeps on twin mattress now.
Re: Crib mattress recs?
We got the Colgate Visco Classica which is a 2 sided mattress, firm for an infant and you flip it for a softer side for a toddler.
We bought it here.

I heard about this one at Baby's 1st. I like that it flips for toddlers, so you can get longer use out of it (our crib converts to the toddler bed).
that's why we bought it. We liked the idea of a softer mattress. You can find it $40-50 cheaper online and there's no sales tax.
We also have this mattress.
