1st Trimester

Has anyone had experience with bleeding, spotting, or cramping?

I just found out that I was pregnant yesterday.  I was spotting brown for 3 days, then yesterday the blood turned red then I started cramping.  I had to leave work and go to the ER, but they told me that I was too early in the pregnancy to do an ultrasound so they sent me home and told me to follow up with my doctor in 2 days to have my hormone level tested again to compare.  If the level goes up then I'm not miscarrying.  My DR is not open again until Monday and they won't get the test results until Tue.  I'm scared and wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience.  The bleeding stopped shortly after I got home yesterday, it's just dripping here and there now, but it's dripping red.  I'm not going to work today.

  • I had some brownish spotting and have had cramping the whole time.  I am getting my 2nd beta results today.  I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was darker than all of the others so I am pretty confident everything is alright.

If I were you I'd get my 2nd betas done at the hospital tomorrow because they are supposed to be 48 hours apart.

  • A few months back, I got 3 BFP's over 4 days and 3 days later, I started cramping/spotting brown to red.  It stopped after about a day and a half.  My doctor's office doesn't see you until minimum 6 weeks for bloodwork(unless you have previous IF issues), so they wouldn't even check my levels.

I took another home hpt after the spotting stopped and it was negative.  The doc's office said it was probably a chemical pregnancy.

Sorry, I'm sure that's not very reassuring to hear, but cp's are actually pretty common and if you aren't ttc, you probably wouldn't even know about it and would just think your period is a couple days late.

On the other hand, there are MANY women who have spotting during their pregnancies and go on to have healthy babies.  So, just try to stay hydrated, relax as much as possible and if you can, get your levels checked.

Good luck and sticky baby dust!

  • I'm sorry you're experiencing this, and all the fears that come with it.  It could be anything -- implantation spotting, old blood....hopefully your betas go up, and you'll be here with us for a good long while.

  • In my first pregnancy I started spotting brown, then red, then dripping red and passing clots. That ended in miscarriage.

In this pregnancy I've already had three bouts of spotting - brown, pink and bright red. The spotting is only seen when I wipe so I don't have to wear a pad or anything. I just had an ultrasound and everything looked great and right on track.

I've heard of several people who have even bled heavily, like a period, and gone on to have successful pregnancies. So it's hard to say. But hang in there as best as possible and remind yourself that there's nothing you can do differently to change the course of things.

  • My first advice is to remain as calm and positive as possible. Bleeding in early pregnancy can mean a variety of negatives or nothing at all. Don't let your mind go there until you KNOW you have a reason too. If your DR is open today, see if you can get in and have quants. done. The waiting is the worst part.

If your news is not good news, surround yourself with those who love you and take a couple days to grieve if you need it. If your news is good news, use your experience to encourage others in the same boat.
