How often do you weigh yourself??

I've never owned a scale..until today.
I stepped on it and was none to happy with what came up..I feel overwhelmed with the amount of weight that I need to loose before Vegas, I want to be able to be happy with how I look in the pictures and not hide them. lol

Anyways...I was wondering how often you all weigh yourselves and what time of day? I dont want to go overboard and get obessed with the number but I would like to see progress (yes, I know, muscle weighs more than fat) many people have told me to base my weight loss on how my clothes fit but Im a visual person and need to see numbers :) I've got about 40lbs to loose and I know its not going to happen before April but hope to give it my all to at least get some of it off!

Thanks!

Re: How often do you weigh yourself??

  • I am a visual person as well, and when I was actively trying to lose weight I made a chart to watch my progress. My husband said it would depress him, but for me, it made me push myself harder so I could see those numbers change. I weighed myself in the morning and in the evening, daily, and would record the numbers on the chart, in an am and pm column.

  • I don't own a scale so I can't be of much help. :)

When I was babysitting for a friend though I was amazed how much my weight fluctuated not only from day to day, but from hour to hour.

Full stomach, full bladder vs. empty stomach empty bladder makes a big difference for me - sometimes a couple pounds!

So I would say no matter what, don't focus on the daily numbers too much, rather look at weekly trends.

    Good luck!?

  • I weigh myself first thing in the morning after I pee but before I shower and no clothes.  Keep in mind it does fluctuate a lot depending on my cycle.

    Good point, thank you!

  • Being pregnant I stay as far away from the scale as possible, but after Caden I joined Weight Watchers because I knew that facing the scale would really motivate me to work harder and watch what I was eating.  I suggest not weighing yourself everyday, but doing it once a week...like every Friday morning or monday morning or something like that.  You usually see more improvement that way than if you do it daily.

  • well since I"m on ww I get weighed once a week at meetings but I do usually weigh myself at the gym once or twice a week just so i'm not surprised at the meetings.  Make sure your scale is correct, you might want to stop by yoru dr's office or someplace that has for sure an accurate scale, my scale at home is 8 lbs heavier than I am ; (

    Ditto.

  • Once a week at WW. First thing in the morning. In the same clothes every week. Only afterwards do I get coffee.  I also have a scale at home but it?s a dial and the numbers are hard to see (because they?re small, not because my gut is so big) so if I step on it, I?m only looking at the general area the needle points.

I'm undergrowing my weigh in pants. :)

  • I'm obsessive compulsive with the scale unfortunately...   Especially now, but thats more because I am fascinated with how quickly the numbers are going down! =D

The only weight I trust however is the one I take in the morning, after I go to the bathroom and before I shower.  Usually clothes vs. no clothes doesnt matter becuase my pj's aren't too heavy just tank top and shorts.

  • When I'm not pregnant, I never weigh myself.  To me a number doesn't mean anything.  What is more important IMO is how I feel about myself and how my clothes fit.  And those things don't require a scale to know or change!

Oh my god, if my scale was +8lbs, that thing would be in the trash!!  I weigh myself almost every morning...I find that it really helps me focus on eating well and not doing the "I get to eat that 'cause I'm pregnant" thing too often!

I also have done Weight Watchers and really loved the structure.

  • I'm same....in the morning after going to the bathroom, before shower and usually down to just underwear.  I don't worry too much about the number as much as the average progress.  It goes up and down each day, and right now I have hit a major frustrating plateau.  Soo....I went and got Wii fit....which also weighs you and tells you about your progress so it's kind of fun.
  • I feel your pain with the scale.  I would like to lose that much too before DS first birthday.  I weigh myself firs thing in the morning for sure and usually again in the evening - I'm kinda obsessed with reading the numbers on the scale.  UGH!  I did the shred DVD for the first time this morning.
