So with 2 weeks to go we are still undecided about a name for our baby girl. We seem to both prefer Emma Kate and yes, we do know that it is very popular, and no we don't care. That being said, we like the way Emma Kate sounds together and are now considering using it as a double first name. The problem is that I can't think of any middle names to use with it. Does anyone have suggestions?
Re: double first name - Emma Kate
I love Emma Kate as a first name!
How about your maiden name or another family surname like your or your DH's Mom's or Grandmother's maiden name as her MN since she already gets 2 nice first names...
I love the name Emma Kate, but I would use Emma as the first name, Kate as the middle name.
Take this from someone who has a double first name...I wish my mom had never done it to me. Now, as an adult, I have basically 3 different identities (seriously, one has really good credit, the others have no credit). Of course, when I got married I didn't want to get rid of a name, so now I've definitely got a mouthful.
It's just annoying to me, but ultimately this is your decision. I just thought I'd give you some insight on someone with a double name.
That is actually my preference b/c my Mom means the world to me - her name is Christine. But does Emma Kate Christine T. sound okay?
Thanks this is helpful. I have an unusual name and really didn't think it was all that fun or cool (many tears were shed in grade school) so I appreciate your feedback.
I really like Emma Kate - very nice name.
Did you consider something like Emma-Kate - only b/c the Kate will probably be dropped by those who don't understand that both are her first name.
Christine is OK....I actually meant someone's last name, not dirst name, so she doen't have "too many" names, but still has a middle name, and you still get to honorv a family member(which imo is what middle names are for)
like for example Emm-Kate Smith Jones
Emma Kate - adorable! love it!
How about Emma Kate Lynn
or Emma Kate Rose
Unfortunately the last names I have to work with are pretty horrible - I couldn't do that to a child!
Emma Kate:
Marie
Elizabeth
Mara
Rose (prefer this over any of them)
Nicole
Jane
Agreed. It's not a law that you must have a middle name! My friend is just plain old Diana Lastname. No middle name at all!
Your profile says you live in Atlanta. If so, having a double first name shouldn't really be a problem. They're pretty common in the South.
However, most of the time when someone has a double first name like that, they're actually going by their first and middle names. It's not like Emma and Kate magically become one name and so the child still needs a middle name.
Having four names is a pain. Whenever she fills out any governmental form, she's going to run into problems. (My dad has four names, so I've seen his frustration.)
Just name her Emma Kate Lastname. (Or, better yet, Emma Katherine Lastname, and just call her Emma Kate. If you tell people that's her name, that's what they'll call her.)
I think Emma Kate is a beautiful name! I also like the idea suggested above about naming her Emma Katherine and calling her Emma Kate.
As far as a mn goes, I don't think it is necessary. My sister has a double name (Mary Catherine) and she just has those two. When she got married she just kept all three names and became Mary Catherine MaidenName LastName. I don't think anyone has ever asked her why she didn't have a middle name. I had actually never really thought that double names needed a middle name since they already have two.
I love double 1st names! I think its best to NOT add an additional middle name just because.
Emma Kate T. is a perfectly sweet name.
Why not use Kate as the middle name but still call her Emma Kate? My niece is Madelynn Grace but we call her Maddie Grace
.
I like the double first name. I even like Emma Kate.
mn suggestions:
Emma-Kate Josephine
Emma-Kate Elizabeth
Emma-Kate Penelope
(I think with the dual one syllable first names, you need something longer for the middle)
Agree. That's all you need to do. You call her that and it will follow....I think it's pretty like that, but if you add in another name it may be a little much. Good luck
