I know I've seen it posted that many store-bought receiving blankets end up being too small for swaddling, and the ones you get from the hospital are great, right?
My dad just went to the fabric store and is going to make our little guy a flannel blanket (cute!) and wants to know how big to make it...
Would somebody be willing to measure their "ideal" swaddling/receiving blanket and let me know the dimensions?
THANKS!?
Re: receiving blankets - best size?
Yup - the "ultimate" ones are the best. You don't get them at all of the hospitals though... Only Overlake from what I hear.
Register for some though. And return any little crappy Gerber ones you get from BRU. They're a waste of time. Well, I take that back, they're OK for putting over you if you're nursing in public. But otherwise, they're no good as a blanket.
Dwell Studio at Target is 40x40 and kept our big guy (almost 20lbs already) swaddled until about 4 months. Overlake gives out Sleepsacks, not the good blankets.
But since pearlydad is making them...42x42!
wow, when I was on my tour 2 years ago, they were giving out those blankets. Sleepsacks are a good giveaway too!
Evergreen didn't give us crap! BOO
I'm no help, but looks like you got an answer. We didn't swaddle past the first week. Little missy liked to sleep with her hands/arms up over her head.
WOW< sleep sacks ARE a god giveaway! We STILL use one EVERYNIGHT!
I agree, 42x42. We still use the smaller Koala sized blankets to tuck around her in the carseat and such, but for swaddling we use our Ultimate Receiving blankets.
Group Health was giving them out when I delivered - the organic ones actually. Very PC of them!
