Will I know if I'm having contractions?

I'm having some occassional tightening (no hard belly) or really light cramping today, but nothing really painful or noticeable unless I'm laying down and paying attention. Is it something I should worry about? I have a huge fear of PTL or cervical shortening (cervix was very long 2 weeks ago); however, I'm hesitant to call the doctor over things that seem minor. I'm very overly paranoid and call my doc quite often, b/c of my large history of m/c's. Any thoughts are appreciated!!!

  • You will notice when the BH start- if they do. BH ctx feel like your whole belly getting really really hard- mine started at my ribs and went down. When I started having I had to bring water with me every where and sit down frequently. I can't tell you what real ctx feel like bc I never had them. I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't start feeling/having BH ctx until about 25wks.

  • Thank you! I appreciate the info! I think I'll give the doctor a call during the daytime hours, rather than bother him tonight, unless things change or get worse! Thanks again!

  • I have had irritable uterus/BH since about 23 weeks, and it just feels like a my lower tummy feels tight.  It is normql most of the time.  GL
  • My doctor asks for you to call if you have had more than four in an hour for two hours in a row.  It sounds like it could be BH, but last week when I thought I was just having BH, they started coming close together and I ended up needing a shot to stop them.

GL, and just keep an eye on it!

  • I would agree they are probably BH and BH contractions are generally nothing to worry about.  You'll be able to tell real contractions.  Don't worry.  This was one of my biggest fears.  I woke up one night contracting.  Nothing I did made them go away.  They were extremely uncomfortable and very timeable.
