I use them instead of a blanket. It's just an extra layer and can replace a blanket since many moms don't want to use them because of the increased SIDS risk.
My DS hates the swaddle, but before we stopped we did not use the sleep sack too. We only started using these once we stopped swaddling.
That is what we use. K doesn't like to be swaddled any more. She hates having her hands covered and her arms "tied" down. We use the sleep sacks cause she also loves to kick off her covers. They are wonderful. I don't know what we would do wothout them. Only prob with them is they can't be worn when we want to put her in her swing, bouncy seat or the car seat.
It's like a little sleeping bag. they come in fleece or other materials and are usually sleeveless and are closed at the bottom. my dd has bee sleeping in one ever since we stopped swaddling her.
My 1 wk. old likes these much better than swaddling. ?I still use the swaddle part that came with the sleep sack...but I think he likes it more because he can move his feet around better than he can swaddled...and apparently he has long legs...lots of his sleepers are already too small just in the length.
