My babies sleep great during the day in their bassinet in the living room. We keep the TV on, do dishes, talk in normal voices, etc. and they don't seem to have a problem staying asleep. BUT, for some reason after their bottle before bedtime we wheel them into our bedroom (they are sleeping in their bassinet in our room still) they are quite for a few minutes and then all hell breaks loose! They both start crying and are upset, not much seems to comfort them.
Do you think it could be because it is dark and quite and they are so use to light and noise? I would love any ideas or suggestions.
Re: Sleeping (or not sleeping) at night
I wish I knew. I've got the same exact thing going on.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
DS#2 - Allergic to Cashew, Pistachio, Kiwi
DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
I think it may be just a product of the babies' internal clocks still being "off" and mixing up of night & day to a certain extent. The babies eventually just get rid of this on their own usually by 6 weeks. We have a little bit of this - for the last few evenings between 8:00-11:00 one of the babies is fussy and has to be held - will not relax or rest or sleep any other way (they don't really fuss all day). Luckily after the 11:00 feeding - they usuall go down to sleep until they wake up for the next feeding - 3.5-5 hours later. The only thing that has helped us a little bit with night fussiness is keeping them awake for a little while after daytime feedings (they are sometimes awake for 1.5 hours after a feeding). The babies sleep in our room in a bassinet ( they also nap there too usually) and our humidifier does provide white noise - white noise was always very helpful with my older DD. But my gut tells me it's probably just a phase they are going through that is hopefully short-lived! Good luck
Its entirely possible that yes, they are used to the environment in your living room. Also consider the temperature...I realized that it is MUCH colder in my bedroom than in other rooms. They sleep in their crib now, and we have a space heater for that room which keeps it really toasty..much toastier than I would like it in my bedroom but they seem to just love it and I swear it knocks them right out.
Its also possible that they just aren't diurnal yet. We had a problem with one or the other of them being totally up between 1-5am.
