WWYD:: Help, I can't decide...{nbr}

Has anyone ever heard of or used Shaklee products before? (www.shaklee.com)  was just introduced to it (formally) last night. Im 100% sold on it already and plan to switch over all my cleaning supplies and replace it...I want to be able to do my part to help the enviroment and more importantly keep my children protected from any harmful cleaners that are in our house now. I figure unlike Partylite, Pampered Chef, which is for the "extras" these are things we are already using and its basically like a "switchover" the prices are amazing and blow 7th Generation out of the water (and you get so much more)..

(As an example, my friend dates all of her Shaklee products to see how long they last her. She showed me her dishwashing soap dated for the beginning of November and it had nearly 90% of the bottle still remaining, plus it contains no clay (used as a filler) and wont cloud up any glasses.(I could go on and on...lol)

anyhoots......my question is, I was looking into selling it (not like Mary Kay or Pampered Chef) no home shows are required...you're basically just like a representative. The product honestly sells itself. I am wondering if this is something that you think would worth the 299.00 investment? I am hesitant because its 299 and although we have the money to do it, will it pay off in the long run??

Would this be something that would be an interest to you?
..basically, if a friend of yours told you about this, would you want more information?

Thank you so much!!

  • I wouldn?t but I?m very skeptical of direct marketing in general. I also remember my parents buying it for a little while in the 70s. I think if the products were really that fantastic, they would?ve taken off more in the past 30+ years.

  • yeah, I totally wondered the same thing, although I did read it is a Fortune 500 company and they send their products out for testing all year long and it continually performs better than your leading name brands as well as all of the "green" products...

  • also, there is no minimum each month so if I dont order anything, thats ok...I dont lose my status

  • I'm always skeptical of business that want you to put money down. While I'm definitely for being at green as possible I wouldn't risk $299 on something like that, especially in such uncertain times. I'd rather keep that money in the bank and know that its gaining interest.

  • In all business' of this nature, it really is hard to earn an income. That said, Shaklee vitamins are some the best out there!

  • I wouldn't do it, but I hate sales and don't like these types of operations in general.  My MIL tried for months to get me to sell Mary Kay--if even just for the discount--and there is no way I would even consider it.
  • I agree with pp, any business that requires you to put money down loses me completely.  That said my background is in sales, I'm not afraid of a cold call or selling someone on my product but I think you will find that business like this really turn people off not to mention I've seen them destroy friendships.  I think that you would do better to put the money into a savings bond, at least you would KNOW that you would make 3% back in the end.

  • I grew up on their products! I sware by the vitamins. Great company and have been around for years!
  • I have a friend who is a rep for them.  She basically does it for the discount; has friends/family that buy through her, but she doesn't "sell".  She has talked about them a little, and I keep meaning to ask her about certain prodcuts.  If you want me to ask her any questions, let me know.

  • I don't think the money down part makes it shifty or anything.... they just need you to buy "samples" right?

    That said, I woudln't do it.  I would suck at trying to sell to people. I feel bad asking people about it and would feel like they felt "obligated" to buy stuff from me as their friend/relative....
