1st Trimester

DHA

is anyone taking supplements?  I did leave a message for the Dr. this AM but haven't heard back.  Seems as if this would be the time - brain development?

Re: DHA

  • I'm taking the once a day women's PNV with DHA.

  • I would recommend the Expecta DHA if you're going to take them..... they don't give you the "fish burps" which honestly... there's not much worse than that. UGH.

FWIW, I was taking them and told my OB. She said she'd leave it up to me but she wouldn't recommend it... She said she doesn't like when these new "trends" pop up and don't feel like there's been enough research done. That a few years down the line they'll find a reason not to take them..... That happens often though with everything preg/baby related.

  • I am taking an OTC prenatal vitamin plus a Lipil/DHA pill daily. I asked the pharmacist and she pointed me to this. I haven't had my dr's appt yet so this is based on what I have read on teh internet.
  • We just had our first OB appt the other day and he gave me prenatals that are taken along with Fish oil pills which contain DHA.  And yes, they are used to help with brain development.  I believe that most prenatals either come in combo with fish oil or they can be taken as separate tabs.
  • I take Target brand prenatal, and also Expecta Lipil DHA.  It's recommended to me by my OB because of it's non-fish based omega 3 fatty acid.
  • Actually studies have shown that eating safe fish twice a week during your SECOND trimester makes for better academic achievement in children.

  • Yes I am.  They had me start taking them when I found out I was PG.

I agree with this.  They are definitely a new trend.  I am not taking them for this reason.  I'd rather take a regular PNV and eat some salmon!
