Does Diaper Rash cream expire???

Hey ladies! I got different kinds of diaper rash cream before Mikey was born and rarely had to use them on him because he rarely got diaper rashes. When he has I'd use Butt Paste on him and by the next day he was fine. On Sunday I noticed some redness so immediately started applying diaper rash cream at every diaper change. I even took a tube to daycare for them to apply at every change. But it doesn't seem to be getting any better. So I got to thinking this cream is well over 15 months old. Can it possibly still be good??? I don't mind buying a new cream, just don't want to keep using something that's not gonna work ya know.

Re: Does Diaper Rash cream expire???

  • I think they do have expiration dates on them but it's not that they will do anything bad, it's just that their effectiveness may be lessened after they expire.

  • Hmmm I looked all over my tube of Butt Paste and I couldn't find any kind of expiration date.
  • We exclusively use A&D for DD, because I know that the petroleum jelly base doesn't expire. I have, somewhere, one tube of the white paste diaper rash cream (Johnson & Johnson, I think) that we have never opened. If it's expired, I would never know it... lol
  • It might not be diaper rash. We went thru this past week at daycare. Tried several different remedies and nothing worked. So finally took to pedi on Friday and it was a yeast infection..but looks just like really bad diaper rash. And it was also bleeding...But the cream we were given did like a 360 on her hiney.....so much better!! just a little advice.

Ahhh thanks, good to know! How long did you wait before you took your DD to the pedi

  • Sorry!! I logged off to go watch the DVR of the biggest loser! haha..3 days..there was no more trying anything else!...And its probably 70% gone now....This stuff worked wonders for her hiney!! The prescription generic is NYSTATIN/TRIAMCINLONE Cream and the brand name is MYCOLOG II Cream....Never hurts to take him in the see if thats what it is..She was absolutely miserable!! good luck :D...
  • Thanks I went ahead and made an appointment with his doc for today. It hasn't gotten any better overnight I have a feeling it is a yeast infection since its not responding at all to his creams. Thanks for mentioning it to me!
