Make your own felt board. Use an old picture frame, peferably one that has a stand on it, but if not, no biggie.
Take out the glass and discard. Or, like me, use one that the glass had broken.
Cover the cardboard with a sheet of acrylic felt (acrylic works best for felt boards). You can use spray glue if you want to make sure it doesn't migrate.
But the frame back together again.
Go to your craft store (my fav for this is Ben Franklins) and buy sheets of felt in the colors of your choice. Usually they are 4 for a $1.
Once you have purchased the felt at the store you are able to use their die cut machines for free. Cut out the felt on the die cut machine, just like you would paper. Let me tell you - much easier then cutting out the alphabet by hand. Some tips... Take off the guard on top of the accu-cut machine. The felt is going to stick to the roller, so you have to peel it off as it roll. Bring scissors to snip any stray threads that didn't cut on the machine. And a ziplock to put the cut pieces in - some of them are pretty tiny. Also, details that are in the die cuts, like dashed lines, will not show up.
I made my son a huge felt board for Christmas when he was 5 years old. I covered a giant piece of plywood with spray glue and black felt and then mounted it on the playroom wall. I think I spent Black friday at Ben Franklins cutting all sorts of alphabets and shapes. It was a huge hit! I sold it at a garage sale about 4 years ago, when there wasn't even a glimmer of having another baby.
You can even cut shapes to match a story - like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
