TTC after 35

TTC this year--probably April..

Hi All,

I'm new to this particular board and had some questions..My husband and I are going to start ttc in April..I'm 36, just went off the pill this month..have been taking prenatal vitamins since October..this was the advice of my gyno but the nurse/midwife on staff told me I could have just taken folic acid..but I'm still taking them anyways..

Is there anything else I need to know before TTC? I bought a pregnancy book and read that I may have to get MMR shot and a tetanus before even trying to have a baby..My gyno did not tell me this at all..I'm trying to be mindful of my diet and exercise..and limit alcohol..

I feel like they should have given me guidelines or something..any thoughts?

Hi, I strongly recommend reading Taking Charge of your Fertility. It's a great place to start.  Good luck!

I would recommend using ovulation predictor kits to start.  It took me 5 months to get pregnant with my son at age 35 and the first two months, I just winged it.  The last three months, I got serious and the OPK's were the key to me getting pregnant.  Of course, everyone is different, but when I TTC #2, I will use them again.  Good luck!

Welcome. Start charting your temps. I use FertilityFriend.com to help me keep track. Buy TCOYF - it will help you go over the details. I also use OPKs but started using the CBEFM too. If you don't know what any of the aconyms mean, look for the glossary at the bottom left after the boards list. Hang out on these boards but be careful to lurk before you ask too many questions on some.

I agree with suggestions from previous posters.  Great ways to start.

Also, if you haven't concieved by the end of 6 months, please consider seeing a specialist - a Reproductive Endocrinologist - to get baseline infertility testing.

If under 35, they recommend you try 1 year on your own.  Once over 35, though, you only have to try 6 months before seeking assistance.

    Good Luck!
