I ahd a full blown out of the blue panic attack in the middle of the night. Absolutely terrifying and only the 2nd ever (1st was the day we brought Audrey home ...)
I had this sense of dread, hyperventilating, my throat felt like it was closing up and someone was wrapping their hand around it, choking me.
Has anyone had these before? I definitely am an anxious kind of person at times, and take zoloft for that and depression... but this was unreal. Obviously i am calling the dr to check in.... but thought I would get some feedback here too....
Re: Panic attack....
YES!!! I have had quite a few of them.
In college I use to get them all the time....then when we were going through the adoption and it was not going too smoothly I think I lived in a panic attack for 3 days. One thing good is that you knew while you were having it what it was. So that takes some of the fear out of it. I find if I can make myself calm down and remember I need to breath slowly and deeply it really does help. I use to have "happy pills" in college to help with them, but after having a few of them I was able to control them better without the meds. It also helps if you figure out what is triggering them. With me its when my heart races....funny since that is what a panic attack is and does. But if I find that I am starting to get sick and my heart starts racing a little bit then I can try and calm down before the attack hits.
Good luck and hang in there girly!!! They are super scary but wont kill you or do any damage long term. HUGS!!!
::hugs::
My SIL has them all the time. She made her DH drive her home from Vegas because she didn't want to get on the plane. I have them if I drink too much, which I used to do a lot prekids so I had them all the time. Now that I don't hardly drink anymore I get them only when I am completely overwhelmed. I also had them worse at night especially when the kids were younger. My Dr. finally gave me lorazepam for nights and it works for me well. The thing is that it can be addicting, as can xanax. There are more meds out there than just these short term fixes. If you took zoloft before, you might want to try it again. I have never had any luck with long term meds as they make me super sleepy and zap my energy level.?
They are no fun but if you can figure out your "trigger" then they are easier to handle. I know if I have a night out w/ the girls and drink more than 2 glasses of wine, I will have them for the next two days. I know if I have a lot of school work going on plus a busy week, I am setting myself up for one. Management for me has been making sure I take care of myself. ?
Definitely look into getting some Xanax to help with a situation like that. You only need to take it when that happens. I'm sorry! I hope you feel better!
