Anyone have a high platelet count?

First set of OB labs came back, everything was fine except my platelet count was 419 (should be under 400). Worried about risk of clots. Will be talking about it at my next appt, just wondering if anyone else was told they have a high platelet count??

Re: Anyone have a high platelet count?

  • I have the Factor II Gene Mutation which results in hyperprothrombinemia, which is a tendency to clot. I am on Lovenox which is an injectible anticoagulent to help thin my blood. I will have to be on it for my entire pregnancy. I have a CBC done to check my platelet and other blood counts periodically. Let me know if I can be of any help to you.

  • I don't have a high platelet count, but I am on Lovenox due to a clotting disorder called Lupus Anticoagulant.  There are a few of us on this board that are on Lovenox if you have any questions.

  • I have essential thrombocythemia and my platelet count prior to pregnancy was in the 900,000 to 1 million range.  I have been taking low dose asprin and seeing both a hematologist and a perinatologist.  My pregnancy due to the high platelet count is considered high risk.  However, pregnancy can lower your platelet count.

At my last blood draw by platlets were in the 500s which is the lowest they have been in 10 years.

I will have growth ultrasounds every 4 wks until the end of my pregnancy to make sure that the baby is growing properly as this can be a risk associated with high platelet counts

My doctors have decided not to have me take any anti-clotting medication as I have never had a clotting incident and they all felt that the possible complications of these drugs were not worth the risk.

Good luck, I know how scary this whole process can be.
