IUI/Lap question

I need to have a lap for some endo. ?The nurse just called and said they can't get me in until March. ?I don't want to sit and do nothing this cycle since it obviously isn't gonna work without help. ?So I want to see about doing an IUI. ?I am already on cycle day 4. ?The Dr. hasn't called back yet on the IUI. ?

What is the first step for doing an IUI? ?And am I too late this cycle to start the process?

Re: IUI/Lap question

  • all my IUI cycles, I had to start meds on CD3 and have bloodwork and ultrasound on CD3.

FWIW - you'll have better odds on IUI after the lap to fix endo.

  • I know we have a better chance after the lap but I just don't want to sit by and do nothing. ?I'm so frustrated, I thought I would get it done this month and move on to baby-making in March. ?Now if I do nothing, waiting to try again until April seems like forever away. I hate this.image
  • Ditto waiting until after the lap. You chances will be so much higher.

  • girl, I hear you on being frustrated to wait.   I was offered the choice of a lap in May at a meeting with my RE.   Told how much our odds would increase and decided to hold off on another IUI until after (since I only had 6 total and had already used 3).

Was told the earliest lap appt was August.   3 freaking months away!   Then in July, was told that the dates had changed and the earliest I could get in was September!   I started BCP August 7th in preparation for the lap.

Stayed on BCP until one week after lap - so that my post-op appt would be the same as CD1 and I could start a new IUI cycle right away.  (instead of waiting another month, which would have happened if I'd stopped the pill right after lap... then I would have been CD8 at post op appt and would be forced to wait a whole cycle which could be 50 days for me)

  • I'd just try the old fashioned way until them. Like stacyee and others mention, your chances are better.

But, I can relate to the waiting. It SUUUUUCCCCKS. Thank god for vampire books, chick lit, and whatever other mindless time sucks there are out there.

  • personally, I would wait

  • I understand the frustration of wanting to do something, but I'd wait.  Your chances of success will be much better after the lap.  A month is not a long wait.  Six months?  Yes.  One month, no.   Find some distractions and drop the attitude that you're "wasting" a month.  If the endo is causing so many problems, an IUI would theoretically be a waste too.  It would waste time and money, if not yours, your docs and insurance company's.  Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I'm in a tell-it-like-it-is kind of mood.

  • I'm fine with people that tell it like it is. ?I'm the same way. ?I'm just upset and having a whoa is me moment.
  • 'woe is me' - sorry, I just flashed back to Bill &Ted's Excellent Adventure with whoa is me.

Anyhow, I'm on a forced break for this cycle because of the ectopic/methotrexate.   Being forced to wait is extremely frustrating.  I too, want to just do something - but I can't because of the risks of birth defects.  At least you can continue trying on your own.

I wouldn't waste the time and money (and heartache) on an IUI cycle that probably won't work because you need the lap done.  It's ok to throw a little pity party in the meantime, but yeah.  Not worth it at this point.
