Would this offend you or am I overly sensitive?

Someone in my FB friends posted a parody of those stupid "inspiration" posters. ?The picture is of a baby in a cardboard box and the caption says: "ADOPTION: Send the little fvcker back"

My jaw kind of dropped in disbelief; this is someone I thought had some tact and class. ?My best friend adopted her son last year, so I thought for a second maybe I was just being overly sensitive to the flippant attitude expressed in the poster, but now I'm just angry and want to say something to this person (she is family), but I'm not sure how to put it. ??

  • I am sure it was a joke. It wouldn't offend me at all
  • It's pretty tasteless - and frankly I don't really get it - but I don't know if I would say anything.

  • I would let it pass.  I'm sure it's just a dumb joke not intended to come across offensively but just kind of does.  There are millions of idiots doing far more offensive type of things worth speaking out over.  This one just deserves an eye roll.
  • That is offensive, but I don't think I'd say anything. ?I just don't see anything good coming from a confrontation about it.

  • I wouldn't be offended but I don't think you're being overly sensitive. I had a twisted sense of humor so I would prob. chuckle but I can see how it's in poor taste and insensitive.

  • I think I would be offended.  I fail to see the humor in it.  I'm not sure I would say anything though.  Maybe comment back saying "Is this supposed to be funny?"

  • I don't think you're being overly sensitive. I think some of those parody posters are really funny, especially the work-related ones, but what you described is not even remotely amusing to me.

  • I think those are clearly meant to be sarcastic.  I used to have one in my cube about success.  It said, "would you like frys with that?"  Clearly, I am not trying to say that everyone who works for McDonald's is stupid just being funny.  That said, I don't think that one is very funny.  I have threatened to fedex my bio child to an orphanage in Croatia many times.

    I agree.

  • I don't find that sort of thing humorous, but someone else might.  I wouldn't say its offensive.  Just not my kind of humor at all.
  • I wouldn't be offended at all, it is just a silly poster thing. You are being sensitive and I am sure everyone knows some kid that they wish could be "sent back" (not their own but you know that kid in daycare that bites everyone and draws blood)
  • Yeah, I get the idea of jokingly wanting to send your kid back. ?That's not what offends me. ?It's the singling out of the adopted child--like it was a mistake to adopt the child. ?

I feel like an adoptive parent would see that and be horrified. ?It's so classless. ??

  • As someone who has adoption very dear to her heart, I'd be extremely offended. I just don't get the need to make offensive jokes. Political correctness is a good thing, IMO. Being sensitive to everyone around you is not a negative thing at all.
  • Oh, I didn't realize they were singling out an adopted child. Yes, that is pretty hearless. Although, I still would not say anything.
  • I think it is very tasteless and it would bother me a little, but not really offend me not much does. I do however understand why it would offend someone. I would not say anything, but that is just how I am.
