Fabric Softener ?

I know you're not supposed to use fabric softener on the baby's clothes because of the chemicals and their sensitive skin.  But what about organic, all-natural fabric softener?  Seventh Generation makes a softener that is all-natural and doesn't contain any of the chemicals that regular softener does, but I'm wondering if it's still ok. 

I've tried the vinegar trick that I've heard of people using before and it's not really working.  Does anyone know anything about all-natural fabric softeners?

I'm using target free and clear dryer sheets.

I think there's an element in fabric softener that lessens the effectiveness of the flame retardant material in baby clothes - although I don't know what it is, or if it would be in organic softener as well.
