One thing that I've never seen explained: why is it that some churches prohibit dancing? What is the religious?explanation?for this?
Someone else mentioned having to get special permission to play instrumental music. Again, anyone care to explain...? I don't go to church now, but as kids we often had someone playing music- a flutist, a violinist, someone on the french horn, etc. ?
Re: Please explain: why no dancing?
We go to a church that has there own band. They play some top 40 songs (just change the words around a bit), lots of Christian rock and other's.
I grew up going to a Baptist church. Although, they still had organ, choir, etc. music, they did not believe in dancing. I still don't know why.
I grew up Southern Baptist, but my church was a lot more liberal than most. I think we were actually kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention because we ordained a female minister.
All those crazy baptists had a ball dancing at my wedding. LOL I knew that some churches did forbid dancing, alcohol, and stuff like that, but mine didn't.
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.

I think the reason they don't allow dancing is the same reason they don't allow non-Christian music...it is secular and "of the world". Basically that could/would be construed as being sexual...but mainly because it was secular. My older kids went to a private Christian school and even though they were well ahead the public school as far as academics they were so far behind the times in the social aspect. The phys ed teacher got in trouble because she was teaching square dancing! lol
My kids played against kids from Pentacostal churches. The boys had to wear sweat pants and t-shirts under their basketball uniforms (talking about sweating like pigs!) and the girls did have extremely long hair and wore long (mid-calf length) skorts (like goucho pants)...ugly. What we found amusing is that it didn't bother them at all if one of their young gilrs had a baby out of wedlock and was only 16 years old. We saw a few in the beachers...I guess watching the baby's daddy play basketball.
