Is a coverlet different than a comforter?

Is it thinner?  Here is my dilemma:

I have a king size bed and leave my comforter on it all year round.  I have to go to the laundry mat to wash it because it doesn't fit in the washer.  I have animals that lay on my bed so the comforter gets animal hair on it.  I was looking for another blanket to lay on top that is smaller and/or thinner that can be washed in the washer.  Any ideas?

I think a coverlet is thinner. What about a duvet cover over your comforter?

Duvet cover is the way to go... we have two or three we keep in circulation our Aussie sheds like crazy so we can just pull it off and throw it in the washer.

For the record, though, yes. A coverlet is different than a comforter. Smaller, thinner, meant to go on top of the blanket of comforter.

We use duvet covers, but I've been considering getting a coverlet, too, because I think it's pretty. I like a pretty bed.?
