PSA: CFL's stink Bad when they sizzle and blow up

ours in the dining room started gurgling, then crackling, then sizzling before it went "pop" and smoke started coming from it.

OMG - talk about a very stinky electical burn smell.  Gross!

(I first thought this was about CBL and was quite confuzzled. ha!)

I heard that you have to be careful when CFLs break b/c they're toxic and have some mercury in them. Have your H do the cleaning up!

actually, the thing stayed in tact.  No breakage - but the smoke was pretty scary for a second.
