Magic butt paste recipe? Please?

Luc has an awful diaper rash from a combination of an upset stomach & pull-ups & potty training, I think.  He hadn't had a diaper rash in what seemed like FOREVER until just recently.  Yesterday he had awful diarrhea and wasn't letting me wipe him effectively. I tried using a wipes then a warm soft washcloth on him, but he literally screamed, cried and tried to get away from me.  It was heartbreaking.  In the end, I put him in underwear with a pullup over and the cotton seemed to help a bit.

So, who has that super-duper butt cream recipe?

Thanks.

Re: Magic butt paste recipe? Please?

  • My BFF and I use a mixture of cold cream and liquid Maalox upon the recommendation of her pedi.

AJ had awful diaper rash a few weeks ago and my doc recommended Lotrimin cream (his was fungal, though...Luc's doesn't sound fungal).

  • What usually works for us is  cetaphil lotion, hydrocortisone and A&D ointment (the plain stuff, no zinc oxide).

However that mix didn't work with her most recent rash and I bought aquafor and that worked well.

  • ugh, I hate bad diaper rash. We always have to wash PAC's butt in the sink and let it air dry, or pat it with a soft towel. I dont know co's recipe offhand, but my doc told us to use a squirt of lotrimin, a squirt of neosporin and a squirt of hydrocortisone 2-3 times a day, and triple or butt paste in between. It works for us. again, though, it's fungal. What does Luc's seem like?

  • I'm really not sure if its fungal or not.  I do think the pull-ups have something to do with it since he's usually poo potty trained, but not pee potty trained.  I thought maybe yeast, but nystatin didn't really do anything (of course it may be expired).  I'll give the lotrimin a shot.
  • With AJ's, I mixed Lotrimin and Triple Paste.  It seemed to help hold the Lotrimin on (it's kind-of thin and slimy).
  • I coat DD's bottom with Butt Paste and then cover it with a layer of Caldescene powder (pink bottle in the baby section of drugstore).  It usually works wonders by the next diaper change.  As a preventative, I usually use the powder at most diaper changes so I can save the butt paste or the butt paste/powder combo for my big guns.  Aquafor also works great for us too.

  • I think it is this ( this is what I have been using anyway- I hope I am not mixing it up. I am pretty sure it is CO's recipe:  some thick diaper cream ( I have been using Aveeno) some Maalox, some Hydrocortisone cream ( I think this is super important-but you should not over do it with this stuff too often, i think it thins the skin.) and some baby powder for thickening it up.

she said to add some lotrimin if you think it is yeasty ( red prickly bumps...)

    SO:

    Diaper Cream

    Maalox

    Hydrocortisone Cream

    Lotrimin (optional)

    Powder

She said amounts don't matter, and you just mix it up- it has been working magic for me since Juneypants has been diarrhea pants....

     good luck with Luc!
