Little Tikes/Step 2 Climber

If you DC has one, was it worth the money.  I have really been thinking about getting one for DS.  He loves being outside. We have a nice backyard and once the baby comes it would be nice to just be able to sit outside with her and watch him play, as opposed to going to the park (and our park sucks).  My only hesitation is that my friend IRL has one and said her son outgrew it by the time he was 18 months.  That seems so young to me, I can remember playing on climbers until I was at least 5.  I don't want a big swing set type thing, really just a climber.  Thoughts?

Re: Little Tikes/Step 2 Climber

  • We got DS the Step 2 Kangaroo Climber for x-mas and at a year he's still a little too young for it. He can't reach the platform for the slide but loves slamming the door and sliding down the slide when we put him up on it. I think I would just buy one of those bigger cube ones that LT makes and use a little stool for the time being so he can reach the slide himself. Outgrowing it at 18 months seems a little early to me - are you sure it was a bigger one  and not a small one like I got?

  • we have a wave climber that we got free from a friend who's kids outgrew it...I love it!!! my kids are BIG...DS will be 2 in a couple of weeks and he's more than 32lbs and about 3' tall...he adores the climber...we left it out (you aren't supposed to i don't think) in the snow, and he loves sliding down into the snow. even my almost 4yo can still enjoy it. (she's ~40" and 36lbs) it isn't as much fun as they get taller because the slide feels shorter...but it holds a lot of weight...

I would say try to find a used one...I don't know how much they are, but I always try to buy stuff like that used so if it doesn't work out, I don't feel as bad about what I spent on it.

  • I got ds a playhouse/slide thingy at a consignment shop this summer.  I wish I knew what brand it was because it is awesome.  It is bigger that the amove picture.  The platform is higher and the slide longer.  DS was a little small for it at first but now he loves it.  We even took it apart and brought it inside for the winter.  Sad to say it is actually in my bedroom.  DS plays with it every morning.  My 6 year old nephew came over the other day and was still able to slide on it.

I called a local consignment shop and had them keep an eye out for me and they did.  She sold it to me for $75 bucks and it was totally worth it.
