How popular was your name at birth?

Just curious. I never knew any other Carolyn's, but my name was #155 when I was born. Pretty popular IMO.

So what was yours? https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

Type your name and then select the # of years to go back. I love that website!

    Yup.

It's pretty and not as unusual sounding as it looks.

My name (Darcy) was 510 the year I was born, and is now out of the top 1000.

I always enjoyed having an unusual name, though.  In particular, I think it made switching from maiden to married name a lot easier.  I am now driving DH crazy by insisting that we pick a girl's name out of the top 500.

Aw, thanks. I get to spend approximately 1/2 my day spelling it though.

At least your name is common enough that people now how to pronounce it- that's always been my issue with having such an unusual name.

  • Mine was # 8 the year I was born. Not terribly surprising as it always seemed like half the girls in my classes had my name. It sucked!

Funny! We are both in So Cal too. I apparently was named after a great grandma that I never knew. Caroline is much more popular I think.

  • Carla and it was ranked #178 the year I was born...funny thing is though, I have only met one other person in my whole life with the same name and her's started with a K...

  • My real name is Christine which was like #44 the year I was born, but I was *almost* a Christina (mom changed her mind last minute) and that was #12.

I go by Christie which was #238, but the most common spelling I see (Christy) was #151

If you can't tell, I like stats and numbers :)

  • Mine didn't even make the list.

    My name is MerileeEmbarrassed

  • Jennifer...#1 when I was born

This is exactly why DH and I chose a name for our son that was NOT this popular. :)

  • Christina #19 in 1982
  • Mine was #1 the year I was born. I didn't mind having a name that many others had, but my mother chose a unique spelling which has always been a pain.
  • Not at all. Apparently my name has never been on the top 100 list. I didn't think my name was that unique- Stacey. Cool site though!

Edit: So I just checked the name spelled Stacy and it was 42 in 1977 and it's 698 right now. I guess that's why everyone spells my name wrong! Mine was a family name though so I feel like MY name is right and all the other Stacy's are wrong. :)?

  • My name won't be on any recent lists... My name is Madonna.  That name was stopped being used after I was born because that's when she became popular.   (And I've heard every joke in the book!)

  • Mine (Lynn) was #242, but I bet it was/is more popular as a middle name.

  • Corinne was 426 in 1984. It's now in the 600s....lol.
