Can you do an HSG and IUI in the same cycle?

I saw an RE for the 1st time last week. I've done 4 clomid cycles, so he said the next step would be an HSG and an IUI (with clomid). He didn't explain either procedure or specify if I would do them in separate cycles or in the same one (if that's even possible).

Thankfully, I've done some research on my own so I have an idea of what each entails, but I'm confused about the timing.

I don't think it would be a problem, because you do the HSG in the beginning of your cycle, before your body to starts to gear up for O.

I don't see why you couldn't do both in the same cycle. The HSG is a test to make sure your tubes are clear and everything looks good in there. It's usually done CD6-13, depending on the practice, so you would have that done before ovulation/IUI. The only thing that might change is if the doctor finds something in the HSG that makes him/her think and IUI wouldn't work (i.e. completely blocked tubes).

Yes you can...I did...I wasn't successful but I didn't have to cancel the cycle.

P.S~ I have read that some doctors will and some doctors will not do it...mine just happened to be one of the ones that did.

I had to wait a cycle when I did the HSG. I didn't really ask if they could be done at the same time. However, we had decided that I would be doing IUI with injectibles, and I wouldn't have wanted to start those before knowing that my tubes were free and that the IUI was a possibility. If your not doing injectibles, I don't see why you couldn't do both.

When I had my HSG I was still just in the Clomid/TI portion of this lovely journey. But we still tried that month without any pain or problems. I believe that's why they are done right after your period ends, but before suspected o/v (CD7-10 roughly). You should have no problem doing an IUI soon after that in the same cycle. I had no pain, spotting, any thing following the HSG. GOOD LUCK!

I had an IUI the same cycle as my lap, and during my lap they injected dye through my tubes and did a hysteroscopy. My doctor is of the opinion that the cycle when the tubes are "cleaned out" is a great cycle to get pregnant in.

Didn't get pregnant, though.
