Did AF change post pregnancy?

I'm just curious, because it has for me.  I used to get cramps when I started my period, sometimes it was moderate but nothing too bad, but since I started again after Mikayla was born O.. M.. G.. I have the WORST cramps and lower back pain, and (TMI) I bleed a lot heavier.  Did anyone else's period change after the baby?

  • Yes!  I never had more than twinge cramps before Tillman.  After, I was in agony...like I wanted to call in sick to work.  And I bled heavily.  Sometime between then and now, it's gone back to pretty much how it was pre-Tillman, but it still can be pretty heavy sometimes.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • I had the opposite happen PP after hannah.  I never get cramps anymore, but the flow seems about the same, maybe a little lighter.  (I wasn't on the mini-pill or anything.)

  • MLQ: we use condoms right now, I'm skerred of anything hormonal after a bad BC pill experience.  :(

Well at least it's comforting (?) to hear other gals have experienced the same thing.  The things they don't tell you about being preggo......

  • i'm busting out leftover percoset for my cramps now.  My flow is lighter and i hardly pay attention to the timing (yay! for not charting) anymore so I'm usually taken by suprise. I have Mirena though.

  • I havent had a period since JULY...no birth control no breastfeeding here

  • After every pregnancy my periods have changed. I have gone from moderate flow (pre DD), to heavy flow (post DD), to light flow (now). I never had cramps, ever, until recently. I have busted into the vicodin the last couple of months because it's so bad. I pretty much lay on the couch, have a heating pad on my tummy and back and take enough vicodin that I can't do anything else. DH has to come home from work to watch DD.

  • yeah mine is much worse now even with bcp, I get migraines and horrible cramping.  That is why I switched to that seasonique pill that you only get af every 3 months!!  So much better!

  • I haven't been there yet but my good friend who's had two kids said after her first her period was almost nothing, two and a half years later she had her second and after that it was much heavier and more intense, so it sounds like it's all over the map. Mine was pretty bad before I was on BC, so I'm hoping maybe it'll move to the lighter side post pregnancy...a gal can dream, right?

  • Mine used to be terrible (ever since I started getting AF) and I was on BCP for them.  Then in 01 I got off BCP because I didnt like the hormones or taking pills and AF was better.  After DD they got strong again and resorted to going to a natropathic chiropractor and its changed so many issues I was having.

  • YES and so unpredictable. I used to have super light, no cramps, just an inconvenience type cycles and now they are way heavier, crampier, suckier in general. I am SO looking forward to going back on the non-mini pill and back on my regular pills which I am hoping will help. I have Mircette regular pills or at least the generic of them which I can't remember the name. But I used to never need an Advil for my PMS and now it's a must. Only 6 weeks to go though before i'm totally done nursing.
