zantac vs prevacid: can't decide

The zantac at 1 ml 3 x a day doesn't seem to do anything except let him sleep a little easier...still has to fuss to sleep in his swing and has 2 bouts of crying a day. Prevacid at 1/2 a solutab 2 x a day seems to give him multiple crying spells with a painful cry each time and his gas returned. I am leaning towards doing the zantac for a while longer instead of the new prevacid script bc of the gas discomforts returning, but feel bad if the prevacid would actually help his reflux more than the zantac was. Grrr, why is this so difficult to figure out!

Re: zantac vs prevacid: can't decide

  • My doctor seem to prefer the Zantac, I am not sure why.  DD hated the taste and learned to spit it out which made giving it to her boat loads of fun, but it was easier than the larger dose of prilocec, but I don't think we tried prevacid, though we did try one other one, I just don't think it was a solutab.  I never could tell much of a difference with DD on any of them.

If your DC learns to spit it out, BTW... when DC gets the rotovirus vaccine make sure you tell the nurse or give it yourself.  DD spit out her whole does and they won't give it again.  She ended up getting rotovirus, which was a month of brutal vomiting and dehydration prevention, along with a couple of weeks of trying to get her strength back.

  • We do both.  1 ml of Zantac and 1/2 a solutab of Prevacid both twice a day.  The Prevacid is a half an hour after the Zantac.  Not a miracle cure, but seems to be helping (the painful screams are alot less).
