Babies: 9 - 12 Months

spaghetti squash?

I've never seen/heard of this squash (my family thinks I'm an idiot:).  I thought it was a butternut squash and picked it up to make baby food.  I about had a heart attack when what looked like worms came out of the squash.  Do you think this is a good Stage 1 baby food?  I can find a definitive answer (b/c it is listed as a winter squash, which wholesome baby foods lists as good)?  TIA

  • I haven't made this yet, but my Petite Appetite Cookbook (by Lisa Barnes) says it's appropriate to feed at 6-9 months.

  • I love it for myself!  Though Im not sure Id use it as a baby food right away just because its so stringy.  Ethan doesnt do so well with that texture (still).  Im not sure what it would be like if it were completely pureed though.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
  • LOL at the worms comment :)
  • If I do make this, I'll probably puree it.

  • Lol - worms!

I dont know about baby food, but its really yummy with butter on it (bake it first obviously) I have also used it in place of pasta for a super low cal version of spaghetti - pretty good!

  • It doesn't puree that well. I'd just cook it and then freeze it in ziploc bags for when your DC is older and can handle texture. My girls really like it.
