I have heard this from a few people now when I talk about Sophia's teething woes. How does this work and why does it seem to be so helpful for relieving the pain?
from what i was told thru my nurse (not pedi) when i called a couple of weeks ago when we were going thru teething hell. Motrin can be very hard on their stomach when given over and over and tylenol isnt so it was better to just keep alternating. I am also curious to hear other answers.
Both medications have side effects, and you can only give a certain amount each day (Tylenol is hard on babies liver, and motrin is hard on the tummy.) Since the side effects are different, if you want to give baby more pain relief, you can give both medications and alternate instead of giving too high of a dose of one.
I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I've never actually used either for teething and DD has cut two teeth already. I give her all-natural teething drops and they seem to do the trick. The active ingredients are chamomile and star anise (I think, don't have the package in front of me right now).
Re: Plz explain: Alternating Tylenol & Motrin
congrats on upcoming grad school graduation.
my doc said to alternate by starting with motrin- in three hours give tylenol (if needed, obviously) and then in three hours give motrin.
