Preemies

SHE CRAWLED!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of you guys know that Campbell has a diagnosed motor delay and gets weekly PT and OT.  Well, she's recently been on some sort of development "spurt"...so much so that her OT is only seeing her every other week now.

Anyway, in the last two weeks she has learned to roll from her back to her belly and just last week she would stay on her tummy for a few minutes playing with a toy and she started pivoting around on her tummy to get to a toy to her side.

In the past few days she's started trying to get her knees under her and this morning she "army-crawled" 2 and 1/2 feet!  I am soooo excited!!!!!!!  I chatted with her PT last night of FB and she couldn't believe the progress C has made since she saw her on Wednesday.

She also pulled to stand in the bathtub the other night and yesterday my mom left the rail down in her crib and heard her moving on the monitor.  When she went in to see what she was doing, C had her hand on the top of the rail and had her head and shoulders off the mattress trying to get up.  Yay for my big girl!!!!!!!!!!

So, for any of you with preemies who are slow on the motor development, it can happen!  It might be slow but C is proof that hard work and EI works!

Ivory- I really thought the same thing b/c C loves to stand so much more than be on her belly.  But it goes to show that you never know!

  • Yeah, E just figured out how to cruise this morning, I have a hard time believing she'll ever crawl. We're headed to my parents' house and my  mom said she's going to crawl all weekend to show E what is supposed to happen ;)

  • I am sobbing with tears of joy for you and Campbell.  How wonderful she is!  This gives me such great hope words can't express, but I know you know exactly how it feels.  Hugs to you both.  Tonight you and DH need to crack open a bottle of wine!
  • That's wonderful!   Funny, I just finished reading your reply to PP about motor development and your seeming disappointed that Campbell wasn't crawling yet, and here we are 3 posts later and she's crawling!  She must have read your post while you were sleeping and decided to give you a treat by showing off a new skill she's been secretly working on.

Hmm. . good luck babyproofing.  My one good thing about having 'delays' in our motor development is that we havne't had to worry about proofing yet.

I know, it's crazy!  Even with her recent development I never actually thought she'd crawl this quickly.  I mean literally last week she would not stay on her tummy longer than 30 seconds and she only started rocking on her hands and knees last night.  Crazy!!!  Now, granted that 2 1/2 feet was this morning and so far the rest of the day she only gone maybe 6 inches at a time, but I'm still excited!

  • totally jealous about the cruising, but at this current rate maybe C will be cruising by tonight Wink

Aw, totally love you, Laura.  It makes me tear up that you're so happy for a baby you've never even met.  Oh and don't worry, wine is a staple in my house so we definitely will get it out tonight!

  • I'm the one who is jealous :) I want E to crawl so bad! I know how important it is for her development down the line and I'm really hoping she does at some point. Campbell is such a superstar! Now that she's figured out how to move you'll be chasing her for the rest of your life :)

  • That is great news!
  • I posted a few videos on our blog.  She doesn't make it too far, but you can see how hard she's working!

  • That is so fun!!!!  DD was a 33 weeker although was more like a wimpy white boy (she acted younger than she was).  I am phyiscal therapist and I did peds for a couple of years.  I kept in touch with EI via telephone (the called every 2-3 months), but we never had their formal services.  The only thing I did with DD was to encourage tummy time (even though she HATED it).  I even had people ask me if all I did was therapy with her all the time.  My response was no, I am in mommy mode, not PT mode.  DD was 10 months old and wasn't even sitting independently AT ALL.  Even for adjusted age, an 8 month old should have some interest in sitting.  I had made up my mind that I was calling EI to start formal services...then DD decided she was done being a preemie and going to be a big girl.  She sat indpendently, did tall kneeling, and could maintian standing (against the couch once placed there) all in the same week.  She'll be walking before you know it!
  • that is fantastic! R never army crawled. he just balanced on all fours and had a hard time getting his chubby belly off of the ground forever!
