Hey sweetie! Thanks for checking on me. She's holding her own at the moment, but is still considered critical. Paralyzed on the right hand side and cannot speak. My mom and the nurses are pretty sure that she recognizes who her and my dad are. For the not-so-hot news...she didn't have just one stroke...she had 2 at the same time, which is why she is both paralyzed and can't speak. The neurologist says that at best, it'll be 6 months before she can speak again and didn't offer a prognosis if she'll ever walk again. They placed a NG tube today so that she could eat, instead of trying to swallow...with the paralysis, aspiration pneumonia is always a possibilty.
For the really craptastic news...I posted this on my local board...
I have a very large extended family because my g-ma is one of 8 children...and the only 3 left are her, and her two older sisters who are 99 and 97 years old...grandma is 88. All are in Michigan, except for my g-ma who lives with my parents in Houston. And as you all know, my g-ma had a major stroke 2 nights ago.
My cousin is supposed to tell her mom (the 97 yr. old sister) about my g-ma having a stroke. We figured that she'd drive over and tell her in person because the 2 sisters are very close and she'll be upset and is already not in the best of health (seriously, she's 97, of course she's not in the best of health). But oh no, that SO did not happen. Instead, my idiot cousin tells her 97 yr. old mother the news over the frickin' phone.
Want to guess what happens next? She (the 97 yr. old sister) got so upset that she had a stroke too! I'm so pissed at my cousin for not handling that better and leaving her alone to try and deal with that kind of news.
Sorry to butt in... OMG, Fran, I can't believe she told her over the phone! That's horrible. I'm so sorry about all of this. Strokes scare the crap outta me. ((((hugs))))
Oh, I was so hoping for a better prognosis, at least in recovery time. I will tell you that my grandfather was given similiar info, and he did in fact walk again, and in about 4-5 months. I will keep praying for the same results for her.
And OMG, I am so sorry to hear about what your cousin did and about her Mom's stroke. Wow, how terrible. I hope she is also doing ok...
btw, I am from one of those families, too. My Grandmother was the middle child of a family or 16 live children (there were also 2 stlil births and 1 m/c) She is 93 and holding her own (except she is in late stage alzheimers) and her 'baby' sister is 88 and you'd guess she was under 70!
Thanks sweetie! Isn't that just Fvcking amazing....who the hell does that?! I'm trying to remain calm for DD's sake and so that it doesn't effect my supply, but that just really chapped my ass.
Re: Fran? Are you here?

I'll keep thinking of you and the ladies, too!
What an odd coincidence...my g-ma is the "baby sister" at 88 as well.
